Cordão de Ouro:
Mestre Suassuna founded Cordāo de Ouro in 1966. Suassuna was a capoeirista from adolescence; he graduated in Itabuna with Mestres Suraru, Abine, and Tonho Role. He also trained as a student under Mestres Valdemar, Canjiquinha, and Bimba. Nowadays, Cordão de Ouro has thousands of students and can be found all over the world.
Capoeira Cangaço:
Capoeira Cangaço was founded in January, 2010 by Mestre Virgulino. Mestre Virgulino (Julio Cesar Souza) was born on December 25, 1972 in Natal, Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil. At the age of 8, he began to practice capoeira in Grupo Asa Branca with Mestre Bia. Later, he continued his trainings at Mestre Canelão’s academy with the group Boa Vontade. In the late 90’s he moved from Natal to São Paulo to join Mestre Suassuna’s group, Cordão de Ouro. There, he obtained the title Contra-Mestre and later the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Mestre degrees. Mestre made his first trip to the USA in 2004, and he opened an academy in Guadalajara, Mexico, which was the first Cordão de Ouro group in the country.Today, Mestre Virgulino is living and teaching in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
